What inspired this shirt?

The forecast said partly cloudy. If you get up for sunrises, you know what that means: a coin toss. The same clouds that catch the color can just as easily sit there gray.

Here are two March mornings on the Cherokee Trail, two years apart, with nearly the same cloud cover: 22% and 23%. One went orange. The other stayed gray.

That’s the 30% chance. You set the alarm anyway.

Orange and pink cloud bands over the far shore before sunrise, ripples spreading across the lake below
March 16, 2024, Cherokee Trail, Stone Mountain. 22% cloud cover at sunrise, color index 41.8.
Streaked gray and yellow cloud over the lake at sunrise, a bank of fog along the far tree line, ducks crossing flat water
March 7, 2026, Cherokee Trail, Stone Mountain. 23% cloud cover at sunrise, color index 18.4.
