What inspired this design?
There’s a great blue heron on the lake at Stone Mountain that I call Herman. (Or Hermione. I’ve never checked.) Herman has one move: the second I raise the phone, Herman leaves. What I get is a frame of water, a few ripples and, on a good morning, two legs disappearing out the top of the picture.
Got him.
Every wildlife photographer owns that shot. The log has 162 mornings on the Cherokee Trail and nine photographs of a great blue heron, so a frame with Herman in it is a small victory. Here are two.
