Porter's Sunflower

Helianthus porteri, per iNaturalist taxonomy (looked up September 21, 2026). The identification is mine; the taxonomy only supplied the name.

What the park calls it, and what its festival is named for. It grows in the thin soil of granite outcrops in the Georgia Piedmont and in very few other places, and it opens across the summit in the last week of August.
